What If

What If: Utrecht Centraal

I love discovering cities with a cup of coffee* in my hand. I walk at a relaxed pace and just take in the space around me. It’s a wonder I haven’t broken anything yet, as most of my fellow architects can concur we kinda walk starring at the top part of the buildings and not at the road itself.
This is of course the same way I went to discover Barcelona and shocked the living daylight of my host. At the end of my first day there, I couldn’t feel my feet. The look of shock on her face when I told her I had been waking constantly from around 8 am till 5 pm was delicious. Sorry D, but you were pretty funny!

When traveling I like to play a game I call “What If”. I look at the things that surround us and wonder if it wouldn’t be funnier, nicer or just more interesting that something specific would look different.

This is the present time view of one of the access staircases for one of the platforms at the Central Station in Utrecht. Not that exciting. True, the station is still in works, however I do not expect the difference to be that spectacular. Sorry NS.

Once, when going down the steps in the narrower top part of the staircase I though”wouldn’t it be so cool if these walls would be covered with plants?”. What if? Sure, those plants would have to be a particular type to survive the lack of direct sunlight, however if possible, that would be pretty cool. Don’t you think?

* Coffee…mrrrrrrrr, miau, hello!
