“-Re” House together with “-Re” Adapt are two series part of a project in which I review, refine and redesign residential projects available on the Dutch housing market. “-Re” House touches projects that have been completed after the year 2000 and could have been done more efficiently to begin with, while “-Re” Adapt looks at how to better adapt older residential architecture that was designed in a different cultural and historical context.
I have to be honest. I chose to play with this layout solely due to the diagonal wall spiting the apartment in half. It was truly irresistible.
Original layout:
• Completed: 1939
Surface: 53m²
External storage: 5m²
• There are no major problems with this layout. The changes that I have made are changes of finesse, but that can be of high impact in the day to day use of the space.
New layout:
• Probably the only thing I had a real issue with was the kitchen. Its space was cramped into a corner despite the available real estate surrounding it. That is why I have chosen an open layout where the table and stove become focus elements.
• The only structural modification can be found in the bathroom, where the option of a bathtub has now been made available.
